What can you expect?

You study in an inspiring environment in the Fine Arts Teaching Programme. You work in an art class and gain experience in various artistic disciplines, techniques and processes. The aim is to develop your artistic position, which will help you represent Fine Arts convincingly in educational contexts. In addition, you can expect a varied and intensive scientific-pedagogical examination in art didactics, art education, art history, art science and aesthetics.

In addition to subject-specific content, you will also deal with inclusive pedagogical and critical approaches to discrimination. At the Berlin University of the Arts, you will be part of a lively and innovative discourse on art that addresses current challenges facing society as a whole. Focusing on your future work in schools is essential from the beginning. At our cooperating universities (FU, HU or TU Berlin), ISS/Gym students can choose from a wide range of second subjects.

The primary school teaching programme students all study German and Mathematics at the Freie Universität Berlin (FU) in addition to the subject of the Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts.

If you would like to study Fine Arts in combination with a special education subject, you apply to the Humboldt University of Berlin after you have proven your special artistic talent in an artistic aptitude test at the UdK Berlin. You study special education at the HU Berlin and fine arts at the UdK Berlin in equal parts.

What do students and professors say?

What I appreciate most about the art teaching programme at the Berlin University of the Arts is the range of possibilities for artistic work; both within the specialist class and in the workshops.

Student in the teacher training programme Fine Arts at Primary Schools B.A.
Prof. Gregory Cumins

Throughout their studies, we support students in their artistic development. We expose them to a wide range of possibilities and encourage them in finding their own position. By doing so students gain an in-depth understanding of art and its many forms of expression, which they can then pass on pupils.
